My Journey part #1

My Journey part #1

It was early 1995 when I visited Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Jamaica Queens, (referred by a friend), under the leadership of Bishop Charles E. Betts.  I witnessed him go to the church every morning at 6:00 AM with other men and pray and pray and pray. I watched him pray for EVERYONE, and he called their family members by their name. I can often remember thinking to myself: I want to be able pray like that someday. Little did I know, that would be my beginning. It all started with the desire to develop a disciplined prayer life.

I also remember my aunt, Pastor Helen Pittman White St. Louis Missouri, talking about her prayer line and how much it helped her start her day.  She talked about what prayer is and why people pray. I can clearly remember her telling me that "prayer drew her closer to God." She said, "Prayer is not fancy words or long fancy speeches" she said, "Prayer is just a conversation with God. Prayer is sharing with God the most private, deepest intimate part of your heart." After hearing her testimony of how God had saved, healed, transformed and restored her life, I knew I wanted to know that feeling from a deep place in my heart and I wanted a strong relationship with God.  And so, I started my conversation with God.

Fast forward to 20 years later, I have come to believe and understand in the Power of Prayer. I believe and have been a witness that prayer can change the situation.  I've also come to realize that having a prayer ministry is not a very popular.  The reason it's unpopular is not because people do not believe in the power of prayer, rather it's because it requires discipline and time. It can be challenging to start something alone, that is exactly why the prayer team is here to support you every step of the way. Think of it as taking 30 minutes out of the day for yourself and to reconnect to God.
