My Journey part #2

My story continues.
After the seeds of
the power of prayer were planted in my spirit by Bishop Betts and Pastor White,
I set out on what I now see as what was meant to be my journey. I am smiling to
myself because you never know what God has planned. As a young Christian, I started on a mission to not only develop a
disciplined prayer life but to also really understand the true meaning of
prayer. Once I began to get a better
understanding of the true meaning and the importance of prayer, I wanted to share it
with others who also wanted to develop a disciplined prayer life as well.
In 1999 I met Monica W. at the Community Church of Christ, on Jamaica Avenue in Queens New York
where Bishop Lester L. Williams (no relations) was the Pastor. We were both new
members of the Community Church and just beginning to dig deep into understanding the things of God. I remember saying to her, “Let’s pray together,
it’s what Christians are supposed to do.” I called Monica every morning at 6:00am and we stated praying together. After Monica and I had been praying together for some time, I told another friend Joya
O. what we were doing, and she joined us. I called Monica and Joya daily; and then one of Joya’s friends joined
as well. And so, it began. My constant
thought and desire was to have daily prayer. At that time in my life the main focus and
goals was to be obedient to what I felt God was calling me to do. I told a few more of my Christian sisters and
we created a “phone prayer chain.” I would call one person and they would call
the next one person, and so on. Once the group got significantly larger, it became challenging to
hear one another clearly over the phone. It quickly became apparent to me that
I had to find another way for us to connect. And that is how the conference
line idea was birthed. Desire A Prayer Life.
